Flying Eagles left winger Success Makanjuola talks up his team’s chances at the U20 World Cup in Poland.
QUESTION: Success, congratulations, what was going through your mind when Nigeria were a goal down against Ukraine in the final Group D match?
SUCCESS MAKANJUOLA: *To be sincere, many thoughts were going through my mind. I was like, is this really happening? But I still had that belief (we will get a result) because I know the calibre of players I have in my team, so I have that belief that we are going to come back stronger.
QUESTION: You started this game, your first start of the tournament, how did you feel when the coach named you on the starting line-up?
I was very happy because the coach is someone whot really talks to me a lot. He told me that I should go and do what I know how to do best, that he believes in me and that was why I am in the starting line-up.
I just wanted to prove a point to him that including me on the starting line-up was worth it. So, I was very happy to start the game.
QUESTION: Looking forward to the Round of 16, there is a huge possibility that Nigeria will meet Senegal, are you prepared for that?
Yes, from what I see, the determination and the tenacity I saw in the boys today (vs Ukraine), we are ready to take on any team. Right now, we have got to that stage where we know we can do it.
The performance we put up against Ukraine was impressive and I was happy.
I believe going into the Round of 16 to face any team, I know we can conquer.
