The Flying Eagles have said they hope to move on at the U20 World Cup in Poland after they reached to the Round of 16 on the back of a 1-1 draw with Group D leaders Ukraine.
The Nigeria U20s finished third in Group D with four points and advanced as one of the best four losers from the first round of the tournament.
They could now likely come up against fellow West African rivals Senegal on Monday for a place in the quarterfinal.
“We’re through to the next round and this will motivate us to take every game as a cup final,” said skipper Ikouwem Udoh.
“Senegal are a good side. We have clashed with them at the WAFU Cup and now in the knockout rounds of the World Cup.
“We hope to win our next game so that we can qualify to the quarterfinal.”
Sweden-based forward Henry Offia predicted a tough contest against the Junior Teranga Lions.
“It will be a hard game, but we will go all out,” he vowed.
“We have been lifted by our qualification and with this mindset we can go past to the next round.”
The Flying Eagles fell 2-0 to Senegal in the final of the U20 WAFU Cup in December.
