Liberian President and former AC Milan star George Weah has congratulated Victor Osimhen for beating his all-time Serie A highest tally by an African.
Osimhen scored his 47th goal at the weekend against Fiorentina to eclipse the 46-goal haul Weah achieved in his time with mighty Milan.
Weah said in his congratulatory message that his record was meant to motivate other players and that Osimhen should remain humble and focused.
“My heartfelt congratulations to you, Victor Osimhen!,” Weah declared on social media.
“I am very glad that you have accomplished a major milestone in your football career after scoring your 47th goal in the Italian Serie A league.
“The records that I set were meant not as a challenge, but as a motivation to you and other African players.
“We have the best of talents. You have to remain humble, tenacious and focused. Don’t be distracted.”
Osimhen is also set to become the first African player to be crowned Goal King of the Serie A.
He is the leading scorer with 23 goals thus far.
