The Flamingos beat Japan 2-1 in Saturday’s World Cup final in Rabat, Morocco.
President Tinubu said the country was proud of the girls’ achievement, which will serve as a source of inspiration.
“Your victory is an inspiration to millions of young Nigerian girls who dream of achieving greatness,” a press statement signed by the Presidential spokesman read in part.
“You have shown them that with hard work, opportunity and determination, they too can reach the highest levels of achievement.”
CAF posted on X: “On top of the world, literally! Nigeria are world champions.”
NFF acting general secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme described the newly crowned world champions as “fabulous Flamingos”.
“This was an awesome performance by the girls all through,” he said.
“They lost their first match narrowly to Poland, but rose stoutly and with determination from that first setback to win the six matches that followed and lift this prestigious trophy.
“They are, indeed, fabulous Flamingos.”
The National Sports Commission (NSC) also celebrated, saying this “remarkable achievement marks a defining moment for Nigerian and African women’s football.”
Foremost Nigerian football supporter Rafiu Oladipo said the Flamingos are “the pride of Africa”.
“They proved that you can do it, if you think you do it and work towards doing it.” he stated.
