Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has warned that it will be difficult for his team to repeat the 10-0 humiliation they inflicted on Sao Tome and Principe last year.
The Super Eagles recorded their biggest ever win last June in Agadir, Morocco, against the islanders.
“It will not be easy to repeat 10-0, that’s a big record,” Peseiro warned.
“The promise is we will give the maximum to score goals, to win and finish top of the group because we are the best team of the group.
“I have a fantastic group and good atmosphere and with these we can beat any team.”
Captain William Ekong will also not promise another big win.
“I wish football was that simple and if you are talking scoring goals, you are speaking to the wrong person (he is a defender),” he said.
“I believe in the team, whoever will play will give their maximum and I am sure we will give the fans something they will be proud about.”
Nigeria top 2023 AFCON Group A with 12 points from five matches, while Sao Tome are bottom on a point.
Both the Super Eagles and second-placed Guinea Bissau have already qualified for the AFCON, but Nigeria will need at least a point to win the group as their closest rivals host Sierra Leone in the other game in the section.
Kick-off time today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo is 5pm.
