Jose Peseiro has said he would still have quit as Super Eagles coach even if they had won the 2023 AFCON.
The Super Eagles fell 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the AFCON final in February and the following month Peseiro quit after his contract ran out.
“I had the support of my staff and the best from my players, but it wasn’t enough,” the Portuguese coach said on a radio interview.
“I wanted to win the AFCON for the fans, the government and everyone, but even before the tournament, I had already decided to leave.
“Even if I had won the trophy, I would have still left.
“There was too much stress.”
