Victor Osimhen will justify his CAF Player of the Year Award by also winning the MVP of the 2023 AFCON and the Super Eagles will win a fourth AFCON title, according to former captain Mikel Obi.
“If I have to pick the Player of the Tournament it will be Osimhen,” Mikel Obi told CNN.
“Osimhen is on fire. He looks a bit like Didier Drogba, little bit of similarities here and there. He scores goals, he will give you goals, he will hold up play, a strong and energetic striker.”
The former Chelsea midfielder will also back the Super Eagles to go all the way to win the tournament 10 years after he helped the country to do so in South Africa.
“Nigeria are blessed with a lot of strikers like (Taiwo) Awoniyi, who is doing very well for Nottingham Forest, also (Victor) Boniface for Leverkusen, but we need to fix a few issues in defence and goalkeeper,” he offered.
“If we do that we have a very good chance (of winning the competition).”
Three-time African champions Nigeria are drawn in Group alongside host nation Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
They begin their campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan.
