The giant striker came off the bench in the 46th minute for Kazeem Olaigbe and five minutes later broke the deadlock at home against Kasimpasa as Trabzonspor went on to win a hard-fought Super Lig clash 2-1.
Onuachu has now netted 12 goals in the Turkish top league.
Trabzonspor match winner Oleksandr Zubkov praised Onuachu, saying the Nigerian striker’s goal almost at the restart boosted team confidence for them to play better and win the game.
“We played a difficult match against a tough, compact opponent. It was a game where it wasn’t easy to find space. We did get into the penalty area, but we couldn’t capitalize on those opportunities in the first half,” he said.
“The positive for us was that Onuachu came on in the second half and scored immediately, which boosted our confidence and allowed us to play well.”
The home win consolidated Trabzonspor third place in the standings.
They have 41 points from 19 matches, two points behind leaders Galatasaray, who have a game in hand.
