Paul Onuachu marked his return to action with a goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in a UEFA Champions League qualifier tonight.
Onuachu was dropped for last weekend’s league game after a difficult start to the new season in Belgium for the league’s top scorer.
The Genk coach later explained that Onuachu was out of sorts in training and so he was axed for the home game against KV Oostende.
The striker returned to action to tonight and he duly opened scoring for his Belgian club in the 39th minute against the run of play.
He was replaced by fellow Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers in the 82nd minute.
However, the visitors deserved their equalizer after the hour mark, before they snatched the winner in the closing minutes.
The return leg will be played in Ukraine next week with the overall winners of this third qualifying round then playing off for a place in the money-spinning group stage of the competition.
