Former international captain Segun ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami has congratulated Victor Osimhen for outscoring him in a Super Eagles jersey.
Osimhen scored a brace Friday in Rwanda to go clear of the 23-goal record of Odegbami.
The Galatasaray striker is now the second most prolific Nigerian player at full international level behind the legendary Rashidi Yekini, who scored 37 goals.
“On behalf of the entire Eagles squad of 1980, I congratulate Nigeria for the incredible victory in Kigali and Victor Osimhen for his individual achievement,” Odegbami commended.
“Supreme goal scorer and centre-forward Victor Osimhen surpassed my record of 23 goals in 46 matches for the country.”
Odegbami was the classic right winger and he said he did not consider himself a goal scorer.
“Even though, I did not consider myself a classic golscorer because I played mostly from the right wing as an outright winger for six short years that I played for the national team, the country began to expect me to score goals , I obliged and the rest is history,” he said.
