Anthony Nwakaeme has said he would have got a second chance with the Super Eagles after a rather forgettable debut, but for the fact that he is not playing in the Premier League in England or Spain’s La Liga.
The 31-year-old striker made his long-awaited debut in Algeria in 2017 and played for 71 minutes and he himself admitted it was not his best performance.
However, he has now said coach Gernot Rohr would have handed him another chance were he playing in one of the major leagues in Europe and not in Israel, where he was then.
“If I had played in England or Spain instead of Israel, they would have given another chance. Because I played in Israel, the national team coach Rohr looked down on me,” the experienced striker said in a TV interview.
Nwakaeme has continued to shine in Turkey with Trabzonspor after recording double figures of goals in his last two seasons.
This season, he has netted six goals and provided five assists as Trabzonspor stay in contention for the Super Lig championship.
