The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will today meet with officials of the League Management Company (LMC) as well as the 20 clubs in the NPFL over the decision to end the 2019/2020 season.
“A final decision on the league season will be taken,” disclosed NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi.
At the weekend, 17 of the NPFL clubs voted to end the season, which still had 13 rounds of matches to be played, because of the disruptions caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Plateau United, Enyimba and Rivers United were also picked to represent the country in next year’s CAF competitions based on the Points Per Game (PPG) rule.
The majority of the clubs also decided that no club will be relegated and no club will be promoted from the second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL), which was halted last year after only five rounds of matches.
Lobi Stars and Akwa United who abstained from the vote and Enugu Rangers, who opted for the playoff option, have since lashed out against these decisions.
The clubs in the NNL notably Shooting Stars have also cried foul, insisting clubs from the lower division ought to also have a say particularly as it concerns promotion to the NPFL.
The league season was suspended on March 18 on account of the Coronavirus Pandemic, which has ravaged the world and caused over 500 deaths in Nigeria.
