It is understood that stakeholders that included top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and League Management Company (LMC) have upheld the major decisions to end the 2019/2020 NPFL season and there will not be relegation or promotion.
The stakeholders may also have cancelled this year’s Aiteo Cup after it was decided that last year’s cup holders Kano Pillars represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup along with Rivers United, who placed third in the NPFL after the league standings were calculated on Points Per Game.
League leaders Plateau United and Enyimba, who placed second on the league table, will feature in the CAF Champions League.
Yesterday’s virtual meeting saw 18 clubs vote for the PPG calculations after Lobi Stars joined the other 17 clubs from the club owners meeting.
Akwa United and Enugu Rangers opposed the rule.
Promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL) was again not considered because the second-tier league has not played at least half of its match schedule before it was suspended last year.
On the back of this decision, no club was relegated from the NPFL.
The NFF are expected to formally communicate their decisions to the sports minister Friday.
