The reopening of the Flying Eagles training camp in Abuja has been put on hold after FIFA announced they are shopping for new hosts for this year’s U20 World Cup after they stripped Indonesia of that right.
A top official told SCORENigeria: “The Flying Eagles were due to return to camp next week to prepare for the World Cup, but that plan has been put on hold because the new hosts for the tournament has not been made known.
“It is believed that the dates of the World Cup will change to allow the new host country prepare their team as well as the organization for the tournament.”
Indonesia was to have hosted the U20 World Cup from May 20 to June 11.
However, world football governing FIFA stripped the Asian country of the hosting rights on account of their hardline stance against one of the qualified teams, Israel.
The shift in the dates of the World Cup would also mean an April 10 deadline for the Flying Eagles to submit a provisional 50-man squad will also be changed.
