Antwerp gamble to splash around six Million Euros for an unknown teenager this summer has already paid off handsomely as George Ilenikhena led them to their first UEFA Champions League victory.
The youngster was brought on to score a stoppage time winner against mighty Barcelona with a cool finish by a 17-year-old striker.
Antwerp snapped up Ilenikhena then 16 from French second division club Amiens in the summer.
He was brought in mainly as a back-up for striker Vincent Janssen.
But in recent weeks, he has proved he is more than a cover with his goals.
He has so far fired eight goals – Four in the league, three in the Belgian Cup and now the famous winner in the Champions League against Barcelona.
His late winning strike makes him the second youngest player to score in the Champions League at age 17 years and 119 days.
Ansu Fati is the youngest player to hit the back of the net in the Champions League.
Ilenikhena was born in Nigeria and left for France when he was three.
He has represented France at age-grade level, but he is also eligible to play for Nigeria.
