In the absence of both William Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo, Wilfred Ndidi is the most likely one to lead the Super Eagles against South Africa and Benin in crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Coach Finidi George has insisted the most senior player who the squad are comfortable with will lead them.
Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are the two most senior players on the 23-man squad named by Finidi for the World Cup qualifiers.
Ndidi made his full international debut in October 2015, while Iheanacho made his a month later.
Defensive midfielder Ndidi is also most likely to start for the Super Eagles, while Iheanacho will have to battle the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Loookman and Victor Boniface for a starting XI place.
