There will be no club vs country controversy involving Victor Osimhen after Napoli released him in good time for the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
Napoli have issued a statement to that effect.
Osimhen will miss today’s Serie A clash at home against Monza after he was sent off in the previous game at Roma.
The striker is 25 years old today.
The 2023 AFCON will only be his second appearance at the continental tournament as injury ruled him out of the 2021 edition staged in Cameroon.
He made his AFCON debut in 2019 when he replaced Odion Ighalo in a third-place match against Tunisia which the Super Eagles won.
All eyes will now be on the 2023 CAF Player of the Year to shoot the Super Eagles to a fourth AFCON triumph.
