Akinkunmi Amoo may have made his Omonia Nicosia debut earlier this month, but the former Golden Eaglets star time in Cyprus has taken a big body blow following the dismissal of sports director Jesper Jansson, who signed him.
Jansson has been very much involved in the career of Amoo after he signed him as sports director of Swedish club Hammarby.
The Swede was also chief scout at Danish club FC Copenhagen, where Amoo transferred to from Hammarby.
And when the nippy forward, who has been called up by the Super Eagles, ran into big trouble in Denmark on the back of rape allegations, it was Jansson who again came to the rescue.
As sports director of Omonia Nicosia, he signed Amoo on a three-year deal last summer.
“We actually know Amoo very well. The last year and a half has been difficult for him. But we have agreed with FCK that we will give him a second chance in his career,” Jansson said then.
However, the Swede, who was also sports director at Swedish club Helsingborgs IF, has now been fired after only seven months with the Cypriot club.
Omonia Nicosia are sixth on the table, nine points behind leaders Apoel.
