Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has narrated how he was denied winning the 2013 CAF Player of the Year Award.
The former Chelsea star said he was assured he was the winner of the top continental award and so flew out full of confidence to Nigeria, where the awards ceremony was staged.
“I was robbed,” he told Dubaieye FM
“Before I want there (awards ceremony), I was told I had won it.
“I knew I won it.
“I won the Nations Cup and the Europa League that year and won the Champions League a year before that.”
Mikel said his claim was justified as most of those who attended the ceremony deserted the hall even before Yaya Toure was announced as the winner of the prestigious award.
