It is certainly the end of an era after Kylian Mbappe quit Nike after 20 years for the upcoming Swiss sports brand On.
“What attracted me to On from the start was the opportunity to build something completely new together that can help shape the football of tomorrow,” Mbappé said via On official channels about his notable move.
“I want to bring my experience and perspective to what we create, keep searching for what is possible through innovation, and at the same time always remain true to the joy of football. We share the same dream and this is just the beginning.”
With Mbappé, On aims to take a major step in the football world. Since its founding in 2010, the brand focused primarily on running and later expanded into tennis, among other sports.
The first On football boot is scheduled to hit the market in 2027. Mbappé will collaborate with the developers to test and further develop the new products.
Former France and Arsenal star Thierry Henry will also play a key role in the new football plans.
He has been appointed Director of Football and has been working behind the scenes on On’s entry into the football world since late 2025.
“To build something new in football, you need a bold and original approach,” said Henry.
“Over the past year, I have seen up close how much curiosity and attention to detail the On team puts into that process. We want to listen to players, understand what they need, and create something that can truly add value to football.
“I am proud to be able to help build what comes next.”
