Agents of Super Eagles No 1 goalkeeper are in the South of France for transfer talks with Ligue 1 club OGC Nice, according to media reports.
According to German newspaper The Rheinische Post, Okoye’s management team is currently even in the south of France for preliminary talks with Nice.
But Okoye himself will rather play down a transfer.
“A top transfer would be a nice gift for Sparta (Rotterdam) and the supporters,” Okoye replied when asked about the interest of Nice.
“But I’m not working on that at the moment.”
This past summer Okoye received two offers, it was further reported.
“Financially, that was very interesting, but I am not someone who chases money. I want to build a career and get the most out of myself,” he maintained.
“In the long run I have to be at the top and play at the highest level. At my age it is not important to fill the bank account.”
The 22-year-old goalkeeper recently extended his contract with Sparta until mid-2025.
Okoye made his debut in the Dutch top league last season and showcased himself, which led to cautious interest from Ajax and AZ, among others.
“I went through all the scenarios with my management and decided to renew at Sparta,” Okoye told The Rheinische Post.
