Jerome Akor’s super form could soon be rewarded with a big-money transfer, according to his Norwegian club.
Akor, 23, has netted five goals in as many matches in the new season to continue from last season when he finished as Lillestrom top scorer despite undergoing a shoulder surgery.
Lillestrom sports director Simon Mesfin disclosed that several top clubs have already made enquiries about the former Flying Eagles striker.
“I have said it before that we could sell him for quite a lot of money,” he told VG Newspaper.
“We could have sold him already last year if he hadn’t been injured, but there were also clubs that called and asked about his situation even after he had shoulder surgery.”
The top Lillestrom official has predicted Akor will break the club record for an outgoing transfer after fellow Nigerian defender Igoh Ogbuh was sold to Czech champions in January for about Three Million Dollars.
When the player himself was asked about whether he could soon be making a transfer, he answered: “I can’t answer that, you have to ask Mesfin (sports director) about that. Right now I’m focused on playing, helping, scoring and staying injury-free.”
The big centre-forward has a contract with the Oslo club until 2024.
Akor has benefitted from a change of formation by his club this season.
Lillestrom favoured the 4-3-3 last term, but they now play the 3-5-2 formation, which allows Akor to play with 31-year-old Thomas Lehne Olsen.
The two strikers have scored seven goals and provided two assists so far as well as combined to edge past Bodo/Glimt to reach the Norway Cup Final later this month.
“In pre-season, we both played alone at the top, so there have been a few new things to deal with now at the start of the season, but it has gone very well so far. The fact that we are now playing together at the top gives us a lot of energy,” Akor remarked.
