SCORENigeria has specially learnt that Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi will start today’s decisive 2027 AFCON qualifier against Guinea Bissau.
Awoniyi was a late call-up by the Super Eagles after Victor Osimhen failed to recover in time from a muscle injury.
The experienced striker impressed when he replaced goal scorer George Ilenikhena in Friday’s 2-1 home win over Madagascar in Uyo.
Injury to Ilenikhena has now handed Awoniyi a starting shirt.
The Coventry City striker has been in international wilderness for about two years before his late invitation for these AFCON qualifiers.
