Chuba Akpom has finally signed on a loan transfer to Ipswich Town to end a saga that also involved another English Championship side Birmingham City.
It is a season-long loan with obligation to buy should Ipswich win promotion back to the Premier League.
It was a crazy saga in which Birmingham first agreed a loan, then fought off a hijack from Middlesbrough, Akpom’s former club.
Ipswich then hijacked the deal and Akpom agreed to join…
Then Birmingham changed their offer to a permanent transfer and Ajax accepted a £6m fee. They wanted Akpom to go to Birmingham.
Yet Akpom had already passed his Ipswich medical and made it clear to Ajax he wanted to join.
To make things even more dramatic, Birmingham played Ipswich on Friday in the first game of the Championship season.
Akpom finally now joined Ipswich after several twists.
