Embattled FIFA boss Gianni Infantino has called a meeting of “senior employees” after Arsene Wenger became the latest top official to criticise him.
The Times of London reported that the meeting will be in Rabat, Morocco.
FIFA director of global development Wenger has knocked the planned sell-off of the World Cup, which has since been scrapped after a massive rejection.
“Withdrawing the proposal was absolutely necessary. It wasn’t even a question,” the former Arsenal boss told the BBC.
Wenger was also clear that he was not aware of the plans until it began circulating in the media.
Earlier FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström, called the plans to sell World Cup shares reprehensible.
So far, no one at the top of the football organisation has come out and publicly defended the president.
Now Infantino is taking action, The Times reported.
According to the British newspaper, the president has called an emergency meeting of all FIFA “senior employees” in Morocco, where, according to sources, he will try to cling to power.
