Coach Imama Amapakabo has told SCORENigeria the CHAN Eagles are determined to redeem themselves with victory over Togo in their opening WAFU Nations Cup game in Senegal tomorrow.
Togo battered Imama’s team 4-1 in Lome in a 2020 CHAN playoff and both teams clash again at the WAFU Nations Cup.
“I believe we can turn the former result (vs Togo) to a favourable one,” said an upbeat Imama.
“We’re optimistic and also determined.
“It’s going to be a fierce battle and it requires that we put in extra to redeem our image.”
Imama has kept faith with the squad to Togo for the CHAN qualifiers with goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa opting out so as to join the Super Eagles for next month’s friendly against Brazil in Singapore.
The winners of this latest clash between Nigeria and Togo will advance to the main tournament, while the losers drop to the plate section of the competition.
Nigeria were beaten finalists of the competition two years ago in Ghana.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone has replaced Morocco in the WAFU Nations Cup after their FIFA ban was lifted and the North Africans pulled out.
