Further details from an interview by Napoli president on a new contract for Victor Osimhen have shown a huge rift between the striker and the Italian champions.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has hinted that contract negotiations with the Super Eagles star have been extremely difficult.
Osimhen, 24, has a contract until June 2025, but the question is whether he will stay with Napoli until then.
“I have never been comfortable with Osimhen,” lashed out the Napoli president in the interview.
“It takes two people to dance the tango. If his attitude has changed, there is little I can do about it.”
De Laurentiis compared the Osimhen situation to Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who he sold to Chelsea only last season after many years when he was speculated to quit Napoli..
“I sold that one at the last minute too,” he boasted.
Both Osimhen and his agent have been far from impressed with these comments, while Napoli announced that talks over a new contract will soon resume.
The relationship between player and club degenerated recently after a TikTok video by Napoli mocked Osimhen.
Osimhen joined Napoli on a record transfer from Ligue 1 club Lille in the summer of 2020 and was very important in the Scudetto they won last season.
He has already scored 65 times in 111 games.
