The Super Eagles will not play at the World Cup this summer despite assurances the country had “an air-tight case” that will throw out DR Congo from the tournament for fielding several ineligible players in a final qualifying playoffs last year.
SCORENigeria checks have now learnt the huge cost the country incurred to put together this petition against DRC.
Several top sources informed SCORENigeria that at least $200,000 (about 300 million Naira) was spent on the highly-publicised petition.
This amount covered consultancy fees, engaging international sports lawyers and gathering information from inside sources in DRC.
In the end, FIFA disciplinary committee did not even treat this petition as it fell outside stipulated deadlines and did not follow other laid-down procedures.
“This was gross incompetence and it was also very costly,” lamented one source.
