According to various media reports, Mikel Obi may have cancelled his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor.
Aspor said Mikel’s contract was mutually terminated.
Trabzonspor though are yet to make an official statement in this respect.
They are chasing the Turkish championship, but Mikel has made it clear he is far from happy the league has carried on despite the Coronavirus Pandemic at the expense of the health of the players.
“I do not feel comfortable and I don’t want to play football in this situation,” he said on Instagram.
“Everyone should be home with their families and loved ones in this critical time.
“Season should be cancelled as the world is facing such turbulent times.
“There is more to life than football.”
Today, the Turkish Super Lig opted to continue the season with clubs playing without spectators.
Mikel was an unused sub in his team’s last league game.
He joined the club on the promptings of fellow Nigeria star Ogenyi Onazi as a free agent after the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
