Abdussalam Magashy, who has been on the radar of Swedish top league side Hammarby, scored his second goal of the season for Varnamo to record an important 3-2 victory at Helsingborgs.
Former FC Hearts midfielder Magashy, 23, hit target in the 40th minute to make it 2-1 in favour of his club.
He played the entire game.
Varnamo have held their own since promotion this year to the Superettan.
They are now third in the standings with 23 points from 12 matches.
Norrby, who also have 23 points, are second only by virtue of a better goals difference.
The top two teams will automatically be promoted to the Swedish top league, the Allsvenskan, while the third-placed team feature in a promotion/relegation playoff.
