Gift Orban will miss tomorrow’s clash between leaders Gent and champions Antwerp after his club did not appeal his suspension for punching his marker at the weekend.
The striker will miss tomorrow’s match at Antwerp, while another game ban will be pending and he will also pay a fine of 1,500 Euros.
Gent coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck said there was no need to appeal the ban because it was the least sanction the player could receive for punching an opponent.
“You can appeal, but that made little sense because you cannot get less,” he argued.
“After all, the minimum is two weeks suspension, they have also adjusted it that way.”
He added: “The physical integrity of the opponent was not in danger. It is a reaction and then you can be punished with a red card.
“I thought it was a severe punishment anyway, but you have an element that allows you to get a red card.”
Gent are top of the standings in Belgium with 17 points from seven matches, five points clear of Antwerp.
