The Flying Eagles preparations for next year’s U20 AFCON in Egypt have suffered a major setback as they will no longer feature in an invitational tournament in Turkey due to cash crunch.
Coach Ladan Bosso had hoped to use the tournament in Turkey step up the build-up for the U20 AFCON, which will produce four teams for the U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May 2023.
It was gathered that the NFF will have to foot all the costs the Flying Eagles will incur in Turkey, including return flight tickets as well as the team’s boarding.
The 2023 U20 AFCON will be played between February 18 and March 12.
The Flying Eagles last featured at the U20 World Cup in Poland in 2019, when they reached the knockout rounds.
