World football governing body FIFA have saluted the postponement of this year’s Tokyo Olympics on account of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
FIFA said in a statement that “highest priority” should be for the health of those who will feature at the Olympics.
“FIFA firmly believes that the health and well-being of everyone involved in sport must always be the highest priority,” the organization said in a statement.
“This is why we welcome the IOC’s decision. FIFA will work with the bodies concerned to address all the key issues linked to this reprogramming.”
IOC President Thomas Bach and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed that the Olympic Games will “have to be rescheduled after 2020 and no later than summer 2021″.
