FIFA Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour has been sacked after he openly criticised his boss Gianni Infantino.
Lamour, who is third in the leadership heirachy, criticised Infantino in a statement, in which he said that Infantino had misled FIFA.
A FIFA spokesperson said in a statement to The Athletic:
“FIFA can confirm that the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour, who was FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, has ended on 17 August 2026. FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him well in the future. No further comment will be made on the matter.”
According to Sky Sports and The Times, Lamour was fired for speaking out critically against Infantino in public.
The Athletic further reports that FIFA’s Swedish Secretary General, Mattias Grafström, was the one who informed FIFA staff about Lamour’s dismissal in an email and thanked him for his efforts for the organisation.
Lamour was clear in his statement against Infantino:
“If it (the statement) means I lose my job, so be it. I will understand and respect that decision. At least I will be able to sleep well tonight,” said the FIFA chief.
Infantino and Lamour have previously worked together in the European football union, UEFA.
