FCT FA chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed has said Nigeria football has been thrown into a state of emergency after the Super Eagles got off to a “catastrophic” start in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Three-time African champions Nigeria failed to beat both Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their opening World Cup qualifiers.
“I think we are in a state of emergency. We took things for granted and we have been shocked by the results,” Mouktar Mohammed told Arise TV in an interview.
“We’re in a state of panic, I have heard stories of setting up of a Presidential task force to be in place to ensure our qualification.
“Nigeria not qualifying (for the World Cup) will be catastrophic. We will lose a whole generation of players.
“How then do you explain to the Nigerian fans after we didn’t go to the last World Cup and then this one?”
Mouktar Mohammed further said officials responsible for the performance of the Super Eagles must be held accountable at all times as World Cup qualification is not negotiable for Nigeria.
“We need to look at the problems and solve them fast,” he urged in this TV interview.
“The AFCON will be a yardstick to gauge our performance.
“We have no option (than to qualify for the 2026 World Cup).
“We must have a plan and we must have KPIs. People who are manning certain positions must be asked certain questions and they must meet up.”
