The chairman of the FCT FA, Adam Mouktar Mohammed, has commended the government for lifting restrictions on sporting activities in the country.
“We now have good examples around the world of how to play the game post-Covid and so the lifting of the ban on sporting activities is timely and most welcome,” said FCT FA chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed.
“We believe we can still play safe while also saving the livelihoods of those who depend on football in the country.”
The Nigerian government Thursday approved the restart of the country’s league, but matches will be played without spectators while there will be strict compliance to measures to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.
National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, announced the lifting of the ban on sporting activities in the country.
“Restriction is removed on outdoor communal (non-contact) sports and use of recreational parks for supervised physical exercise; and
Sporting leagues to resume with no fans in stadiums and with necessary NPIs to be directed by the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and the NCDC,” he said.
The Nigerian league was suspended in March with 13 rounds of matches still to be played following the outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Officials have announced that a new league season will start later this month or in October.
