The Falconets of Nigeria have suffered yet another setback after Benfica ordered striker Janet ‘Semenya’ Akekoromowei back to Portugal while threatening to cancel her contract.
SCORENigeria has already broken the news that the Falconets will be flying out of Abuja later today with only 15 players after the Polish embassy denied entry visas to the rest of the players on the final squad.
And now Portuguese champions Benfica have ordered the team’s star striker Semenya to return to base because she was not properly cleared to play at the World Cup.
A source told SCORENigeria: “The player has been ordered by her club to fly back to Portugal, if not they will terminate her contract.
“They insisted she was not properly cleared to play at the World Cup.”
Semenya, accompanied by her legal adviser, touched down in Poland Sunday ahead of the World Cup.
