Antwerp have failed to retain the Belgium FA Cup after Union St.Gilloise edged past them by the odd goal with top expert questioning a late introduction for Chidera Ejuke.
It was a drab cup final as both teams tried to frustrate each other.
Marc Degryse, former Belgium star and now a highly-regarded TV pundit, said Ejuke has been one of Antwerp most creative players in recent times and ought to have started the cup final.
“Ejuke has brought creativity and inspiration in recent weeks, but only came on in minute 75. I would have given him and (George) Ilenikhena more time or even let them start,” he analysed.
Antwerp brought on Lagos-born striker Ilenikhena for the last four minutes, Ejuke played for 18 minutes, while Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf featured for the last 17 minutes of the cup final.
Antwerp have already lost the league title they won last season as they languish bottom of the Championship Playoffs with three rounds of matches left to be played.
