Kelechi Iheanacho has not only recovered from a thigh injury that made him a major injury doubt for the AFCON, he has also shone in training with the Super Eagles in Abidjan but has yet to feature in the tournament.
SCORENigeria now understands that he has been frozen out of the AFCON by coach Jose Peseiro after he disrespected the Portuguese coach during one of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November.
“Kelechi has been shut out after he disrespected the coach recently,” a source informed SCORENigeria
“That’s why has yet to see action at this AFCON.”
“Of course, the boy is unhappy but the coach wants to show him who is the boss,” added the source.
It was further gathered that fitness was never an issue for the Leicester City striker as the medical team of his English club did a great job to get him back to full fitness.
