Fans will now get their wish this afternoon as Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface will start for the Super Eagles against Benin in an important 2026 World Cup qualifier in Abidjan.
Many fans questioned why the 23-year-old Victor Boniface did not see action Friday night against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
SCORENigeria first broke that Victor Boniface did not make the starting XI against South Africa because he was not in top physical shape since he recovered from an abductor injury that needed surgery.
That explained why in the first instance he was consigned mostly to the substitutes’ bench at German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the closing weeks of the past season.
Since his comeback from injury that sidelined him for four months, he only started three of seven Bundesliga games he appeared for Bayer Leverkusen.
He also did not play a full game, while he was an unused sub for both legs of the Europa League semifinal against AS Roma and was only brought on at the start of the second half against Atalanta in the final.
In addition, he was an unused sub in the German Cup final against Kaiserslautern, which was his team’s last game of the season on May 25.
