SCORENigeria can exclusively report that Anderlecht had to fend off better offers from fellow Belgian clubs Mouscron and OH Leuven to sign long-time target Paul Omo Mukairu on transfer deadline day today.
Anderlecht made two official bids for Mukairu, 20, as early as July, but his Turkish Super Lig club Antalyaspor rejected both as they fell below their own valuation of the player.
There were also offers for the striker or winger from several Italian clubs like Genoa, Spezia and Sassuolo.
However, in the closing hours to the transfer deadline both Leuven, who are wned by Premier League club Leicester City, and Mouscron, who belong to French Ligue 1 side Lille, stepped up interest in the exciting forward.
Both presented better offers financially than Anderlecht, but Antalyaspor had already committed to Belgium’s most successful club.
Anderlecht have agreed a loan switch with option to buy Mukairu permanently thereafter.
