Victory Beniangba must heave a big sigh of relief after he escaped having his career put on hold by FIFA via a long-term ban because he signed for two different European clubs.
SCORENigeria has been informed by a top source familiar with this transfer that Belgian club Genk have agreed a settlement with Spanish club Celta Vigo to finally put an end to this messy transfer saga.
Beniangba, 20, first signed for Celta Vigo, it was gathered, before he then committed to Genk after they offered more money to his Egyptian club Cleopatra FC.
“Genk would have been slammed with a transfer ban and pay a hefty fine, while the player would have been banned by FIFA for five years had they not reached an agreement with Celta,” the source told SCORENigeria
It is not yet known how much Genk had to part with, but it is believed to be a six-figure payoff.
Former Bayelsa United star Beniangba will now hope to put the entire episode behind him as he fights to break into the Genk first team in his second season in Europe.
