Emmanuel Dennis has struggled to handle success, according to a former coach at Belgian champions Club Brugge.
Rudi Cossey was assistant coach at Club Brugge when Dennis started out in Belgium and he has now said the winger could have produced more but instead he has stagnated because of his attitude.
Cossey told Krant van West-Vlaanderen: “In the beginning he was sharp, down to earth and driven to prove himself, but after that he did not handle the success so well.
“He has started to go his own way. He focused on a transfer, but it didn’t happen and he found it very difficult to deal with.”
He said Dennis is not an easy person.
“He is very idiosyncratic, very unstable, very difficult to mold and very difficult to fit into patterns. I fear that will play tricks on him,” he said
“He is a gold nugget for Club, but he is not developing as expected.
“He must understand that he must play for the team and must stick to instructions.
“It is not only in Bruges that coaches will ask him to work hard, also fight to win back the ball when you lose it.
“If you fail to do that in a big league, you have a big problem.”
Dennis has a price tag of around 25 million Euros, but lately he has come under the attack of Club Brugge fans who say he is capable of a better performance.
