Cyriel Dessers was thrilled for Rangers to reach the knockout rounds of the Europa League in style after he assisted a goal in a 2-1 home win over Belgian club Union St.Gilloise.
The home win secured the Scottish giants a Top 8 finish, which means they avoid the playoffs and advance automatically to the Round of 16.
“We are indeed eighth. I just heard it on the pitch. That is special, because we skip a round,” the Super Eagles striker celebrated.
This is an incredible club and the European evenings are special. It’s really great.”
Dessers opted to play for Nigeria instead of Belgium, where his father hails from.
He therefore wanted to prove a point against his fellow countrymen,
“I had received some messages during the day from family and friends that they were going to watch the match,” Dessers said in front of the Sporza camera afterwards.
“Then of course you always want to do your best.”
