Cyriel Dessers grabbed his sixth goal in the Scottish league for Rangers against St Johnstone to now come within two points of leaders Celtic with a game in hand.
The striker, who is on the 40-man provisional squad for the 2023 AFCON, opened scoring for Rangers to go on to win 2-0 from the penalty spot after Dessers was brought down inside the box on his way to goal.
He came on for injured Kemar Roofe in the 16th minute and fired home a cross from the right on 28 minutes.
Rangers now have 40 points from 17 matches to remain behind defending champions Celtic, who have recorded 42 points from 18 games.
Both fierce city rivals are billed for an epic clash on December 30.
