Cyriel Dessers has said he hopes to be the man to lead the strike force of Genk should Paul Onuachu make his big transfer as widely expected.
Dessers stole the show from his fellow Super Eagles striker Onuachu, when he replaced him in the second half and went ahead to provide the assist for Genk to snatch a draw at Standard Liege on the opening day of action in the Belgian league Friday.
“Whether he (Onuachu) will stay or not is the question for everyone, I also think for him. All I can do is show in the minutes that I get, that I am ready when he leaves and that I can take his place,” Dessers told Sporza.
“I think I better show myself quickly, especially with the Champions League matches coming up. So that Genk also have the feeling that I am there and they can give me the confidence.”
Last season, he scored five goals mainly coming off the bench.
