Daniel Daga will start for the Flying Eagles in tonight’s U20 World Cup opening group game against Norway as coach Aliyu Zubairu banks on the midfielder’s experience as well as that of captain Daniel Bameyi for his team to get started in Chile.
Daga, who incidentally plays in Norway for Molde, was the last player to join the Flying Eagles squad in South America after he was released by his club last week.
Both he and Bameyi featured at the 2023 World Cup in Argentina, where Nigeria got to the quarterfinal.
Coach Aliyu Zubairu has settled for the core of the team who won the WAFU B qualifiers last year in Togo with goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt, Odinaka Okoro, Israel Ayuma, Nasiru Salihu and striker Kparobo Ariehi all starting.
Flying Eagles Starting XI vs Norway: Harcourt – Odinaka, Ochoche, Bameyi (Captain), Akinyele – Daga, Ayuma, Salihu – Maigana, Kparobo, Achihi
