Club Brugge coach Philippe Clement has come to the stout defence of David Okereke, who has struggled to make the starting XI this season after his eight million Euros transfer last season.
Okereke has been widely written off, but his coach maintained he expects him to fight back to reclaim his place in the starting XI.
“We are working hard with everyone. And with every player it can go up and down with periods. It is now up to those players themselves to train very hard and prove that they want to be with those eleven starters”, Clement said at the press conference.
The Club Brugge coach also revealed that he no longer players the 23-year-old Nigerian as top striker, but on the flanks and that may take some time for him to adapt.
“David has played well as top striker against attacking teams, making use of the space. He has had a much more difficult time against teams that use a low block and man mark,” he explained. “So given that most teams play like that against us, I like him on the flank rather than as a deep striker.
“That’s has been a change from a year ago.”
