Cash considerations have meant FC Twente are yet to begin talks with Tyronne Ebuehi over a possibility to buy him permanently from Portuguese giants Benfica.
Dutch club Twente have until April 30 to active a clause to buy Ebuehi, who has shone on loan from Benfica this season.
Twente technical director Jan Streuer admitted budgetary concerns have held them back from discussing with the versatile Ebuehi.
“We are not only dealing with a transfer fee, but also with the player’s salary. We still have to talk to Ebuehi,” he told Voetbal International.
“Our budget will not allow a lot of money to be made available for transfer fees in the coming months. We will have to be creative again.”
Ebuehi, 25, has revived his career at Twente after injury-plagued two seasons at Benfica.
He has scored a goal in 24 appearances in the league so far.
Twente are eighth on the table with 36 points from 25 matches.
