Rivers United fell 2-0 at home in Uyo to Tanzania’s Young Africans in a CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal first leg match today.
‘Yanga’ were resolute in defence to shut out the home team, who did not record a shot at goal.
Congolese striker Kalala Mayele grabbed a second-half brace for the visitors when he broke the deadlock on 74 minutes, before he doubled his team’s advantage seven minutes later.
He has now netted five goals in as many CAF Confederation Cup games.
The return leg will be played in Tanzania next week with the overall winners advancing to the semifinal of the competition.
